I believe care is cultivated through relationships—with time to listen, understand what matters to you, and stay connected as your needs change through the transitions in your life.

LISTENING

I created my private practice because I believe care begins with knowing you—not just your health history, but your experiences, questions, priorities, and goals.

You are the expert in living in your body and knowing what matters in your life. I bring more than two decades of midwifery experience, clinical knowledge, perspective, and curiosity. Our relationship creates the space to bring those things together.

Our conversations may draw from current research, established clinical practice, emerging ideas, and the experiences of the people I have cared for. We can consider what is known, what is still being explored, and what may be useful for you.

Then we make a plan, see how it feels, and keep talking.

Care is not static. New information emerges. Bodies change. Lives change. Priorities change. Our conversations and your care can evolve with them.

PREGNANCY + HOME BIRTH CARE

Pregnancy and birth are deeply personal experiences.

I offer private midwifery care throughout pregnancy, home birth, and postpartum in the Portland + Vancouver area. Prenatal visits take place in your home, creating time and space for care within the environment where you live your everyday life.

Throughout your pregnancy, we will prepare for birth in ways that are practical and evidence-informed while also making space for the emotional, intuitive, and deeply human dimensions of the experience.

My approach has been influenced by the midwifery tradition and by the work of Ina May Gaskin and Pam England, whose writing has helped expand the conversation about birth beyond the purely clinical. We can talk about what you want, what you're experiencing, the choices available to you, and how your ideas about birth may evolve as pregnancy progresses.

By the time labor begins, we will have spent your pregnancy getting to know one another. When it is time, I will come to you to attend your birth and continue caring for you and your newborn afterward.

Care may include:

• Prenatal care in your home
• Birth preparation + informed-choice conversations
• Lab collection (billed separately)
• Labor + home birth care
• Postpartum care
• Newborn care through the first 28 days
• Coordination with other healthcare providers when appropriate

If you are considering home birth, we can begin by talking about what you are looking for in your care.

MIDLIFE + MENOPAUSE

Sometimes it begins before you're ready to call it menopause.

Your cycle changes. Sleep changes. Energy changes. Sex changes. Your body feels different.

Something is asking for your attention.

Perimenopause can affect the way you experience your body, sexuality, cognition, mood, strength, skin, sleep, and energy. At the same time, the amount of information about hormones and menopause has exploded—and it isn't always easy to know what applies to you.

This is a place to bring those questions.

We can explore what you are noticing, your health history and goals, what may be contributing to the changes you're experiencing, and what you would like to feel different.

Depending on what we discover, that might lead us toward further evaluation or testing, treatment options, hormone therapy, nutrition, movement, sexual wellness, sleep, other wellness strategies—or simply observing something more closely before deciding what to do.

There is no single way to move through menopause.

The question is what makes sense for you—and what you want this next part of your life to feel like.

MEET YOUR MIDWIFE
Amber Zietz, CNM

I have been a certified nurse-midwife for more than two decades, caring for people through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, gynecologic care, and many of the changes that happen across our lives.

Midwifery has shaped the way I understand healthcare. The word "midwife" itself means "with woman," and that relationship has remained at the center of my work.

Now, in my own midlife, I find myself increasingly curious about the questions many of my clients are asking too: How do we support our health as our biology changes? What helps us stay strong, sexual, energetic, cognitively engaged, and connected to our bodies? What does the evidence tell us—and what are we still discovering?

Those questions are part of what inspired me to create this practice.

I bring clinical experience to the conversation, but also genuine curiosity about what is possible throughout our lives.

LET’S START WITH A CONVERSATION

You don't need to know exactly what kind of care you need before reaching out.

If you're considering home birth, have questions about changes you're experiencing in midlife, or simply want to know whether we might be a good fit, I would be glad to hear from you.
